San Diego Library Gas Leak and market update

Just came home and a fire truck is blocking access to the Park Terrace garage. A construction worker had us drive up the curb, along the front of several retail locations and make a sharp right down in to the garage. Appears everything is now under control but neighbors said the smell of the gas leaking was really strong several hours earlier.  Why am I posting this? Well I thought it was interesting because they are building the library across the street from me and I could use it as a cheap excuse to give you a market update about the area. I live in Park Terrace and market this complex and many condo complexes in the Downtown, Ballpark, East Village area.

The firefighters and truck all appear to be ready go! I am big fan of watching things like this, seeing how things work and I am a huge fan of firefighters and the no fear attitude it takes to be one. Look at the picture and you will see one arm sitting on the right side window having a bit of a relax but ready to go at a moments notice. If those guys are safe down there I am sure I am ok up here in the building. Also, look at the fire hose running into the truck full of water. That is coming from the hydrant on the corner and the other one is ready to dowse the flames should something bad happen. Ok, so maybe I am getting a bit overboard here so let’s move on to the market update.

See the building in the background? That is the lower mid rise building of ICON, one of my favorite buildings here in the East Village. It has an awesome and I mean awesome roof top deck with sitting area, barbeque’s, TV’s, great spot for entertaining. It looks right down into Petco Park which is the home pf the San Diego Padres baseball team.

The photo I added below, which is pretty hard to miss is the taller portion of ICON, at the very top is where the common area sun deck is. The new Downtown Library is going to be located in a very central location. The new Thomas Jefferson School of Law is one block north. ICON is one block West. Part Terrace is one block South. The other benefit of this area is the trolley that runs North and South just East of 11TH Ave. This really improves congestion and pedestrian traffic during ball games.

Below the large photo of the ICON building you will see current 9 MLS listings for the 92101 zip code. The top 3 listings and the 3 cheapest listings in this zip code while the bottom 3 are the most expensive listings for this area. If you have an extra $7 million dollars laying around, check out that last listing and the views that you get!

  1. Alex, great way to use the firetruck to bring awareness to the ICON building. It looks like a neat building and sounds like there are many amenities!

    Hi Alex,

Great post on this kind of scenario. it seems that you’re fond of watching this kind of drill. Anyway the place where you’re living is really good. The units are amazing and it seems affordable.
