Located on a peninsula that juts towards Vacation Isle in Mission Bay is the Pacific Beach neighborhood of Crown Point. Bordered by Sail Bay in the west, Fiesta Bay in the east and separated from Vacation Isle by Fisherman’s Channel to the south, Crown Point is surrounded on three sides by the calm blue waters of Mission Bay. In the north Crown Point is gradually subsumed into Pacific Beach – one could also say Crown Point is the southern-most end of Pacific Beach. Ingraham Street is main commercial thoroughfare and runs all the way from Pacific Beach down through Crown Point and over Mission Bay into Vacation Isle, and then all the way down to Sea World.
Crown Point Park covers much of the eastern part of the peninsula. The park features wide open grassy fields, a sand beach along its shore and large open sandy areas used for beach volleyball tournaments, open-air concerts and other events. Amenities include on-duty lifeguards, beach shower facilities, picnic tables, BBQs, volleyball and basketball courts, children’s play area, fire pits, a boat launch and paved bike paths.
Featuring a long coastline with white sand beaches and a large public park, Crown Point is perfect for lovers of the great outdoors and those who wish to lead an active lifestyle. Unlike other more isolated San Diego beachfront residential communities like Coronado, Crown Point remains close to downtown San Diego while still offering residents access to public parks and beaches almost at their front door. The beaches around Crown Point are hot-spots for all sorts of waters ports including surfing, boogie boarding, swimming, kayaking, paddle boarding as well as jet skiing, jet boating, water-powered jet-packing, wave-running, water-skiing and sailing.
San Diego’s Last Affordable Beachfront Community
One of the biggest advantages Crown Point has over other beachfront communities such as Mission Beach or Coronado is its affordability. Crown Point is one of the last remaining neighborhoods in San Diego where buying a home overlooking Mission Bay with direct access to the beach won’t cost you millions. Plus with downtown San Diego just 15 minutes away by car makes Crown Point makes commuting to work quick and easy.
